My experiment in pouring a concrete table top worked... I poured it a while ago, but then just let it sit there for a while, as I tend to do with a lot of things I make. So finally I bought some nice old rusty hairpin legs off Ebay and my little concrete table was born. I'm so happy with it. Now I need to try to pour different sizes, source some more legs, see what I can make of this experiment.
And... in case you read the New York Times, I'm in an article about out-of-work architects; exciting to see my name in print! Go here to read it online.... it's really interesting to see what 'creatives' are doing to keep themselves afloat. It's still scary out there. Love the idea of Architecture 5¢! And I'm suddenly craving ice cream sandwiches.

read the article. Loved it.
Read about you on the NYT site. Your natural creativity and ability to work from knitting wool to pouring concrete are your strengths. I've seen lots of wool pullovers (sweaters) and some wool toys (old fashioned poor persons' craft gets funky) , I've seen an increasing number of concrete kitchen counter tops, bathroom vanities and table tops etc. But I haven't seen a full wall tilt up concrete bookcase or entertainment centre. I think I'll make one ... thanks for the inspiration and I wish you good luck.
Read it and I have literally gotten it txted and emailed to me. Ha! congrats.

For some concrete ideas.
I found you via the NY Times article! Love your blog and have seen your stuff on Etsy before! Keep it up!

That article made me sad, yet made me hopeful. Good luck to all of us!
Debi - so cool for you! Both the cement pouring and the article. I'm so impressed you took on the cement project. And it looks like it was a great result! Keep surprising us!
I'm saying hello, because of NYTimes, and wishing you all the best.
Neat blog - I like the way you see art everywhere.
I also found your blog and work through the NYT article. I'm a laid off designer as well, so I was encouraged and inspired to read about what others in the same boat are doing to feed their creativity.
Congrats on the NYT appearance! I look forward to following your design explorations!
Read about you in the NYT. I love life reinventions. I've been there. good luck!
love the concrete table
I followed the NYT's article to your blog. Love the blog and your creations. Will come often to visit.
Wowzers on the NYTimes comments.
Read about you in the NYT. Great stuff you got here. Keep going... godd luck...
holy sh*t! thanks everyone!
this response is, dare I say it, overwhelming, but so SO great!
You make this blog one day, you hope people like it and read it. You hope that your ideas are well received and that they fit into as well as push the design community that you're part of... it's such a gamble and based on persistence, instinct, and self-critique... but mostly persistence. I find that this blog keeps me on track, it makes my secret endeavors public but in a way I can feel comfortable to share.
I used to be very afraid of that, but I'm learning that the more you expand and expose (a better word might be curate) yourself and your skills and invite people to see what you're doing, the better you become as a designer.
I am happily shocked at the traffic on the blog and so excited about the encouraging comments. It makes me want to knit up a storm, pour loads of concrete, make a book, and surprise you and me too.
Thank you again.
